This book is about my late beautiful mother and takes place in one of the homes we lived in. And it is also about our cat, Sierra, a Himalayan cat, who was loved by all who knew her. One time, my mother went away for vacation and Sierra would not stop howling until I picked her up and gave her love.

New Children’s Book Teaches the Importance of Being Kind.  

Author Angela DeFina wants to influence children to love and  be kind to one another with this new book.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Author Angele DeFina, a former teacher, knows the importance of teaching children to love and be kind to one another. In her new children’s book, 

“The Howling Himalayan and Pepe at Worthwyle,” DeFina tells the story of a family and their clever Himalayan cat and how love and consideration allowed them to overcome a bad situation. 

The story is told in easy to follow poetry verses for parents and children of all ages to enjoy. The book follows the mother named Pepe and the chain of events that take place at their home called Worthwyle when their Himalayan gets into mischief and escapes the house. Thanks to the kindness and consideration of their neighbor, they are able to find the Himalayan and return the cat home safely.

“I believe in love and consideration and practice it daily,” said DeFina. “I wanted to show children that this love and consideration can help many bad situations such as a lost cat.”

 

DeFina was inspired to write this book after 10 years of teaching and was also influenced by the love for her own family and their late great Himalayan cat, Sierra, who was very friendly with dog-like tendencies and lived to be 20-years-old.

Welcome to my blog Angela.  Please tell me and my readers about your new book and work?

Q:	Tell us about your latest work—title, genre, etc. — and why you wrote it?
A:	I wrote “The Howling Himalayan and Pepe at Worthwyle” because of my love for my family and late Himalayan cat named Siera. I decided that what we truly need in the world is love. One time, Siera was howling and did not stop until I picked her up and gave her love. Thus it only shows love conquers all.
Q:	What draws you to your genre(s)? Why is this type of story compelling to you?
A:	This type of story is compelling to me because I taught children and saw how much they need love.
Q:	What is your writing process like? Do you map the whole thing out or do you just let it unfold?
A:	I just let the story unfold as I wrote about what was near and dear to my heart.
Q:	What kind of research was involved?
A:	The research was done by my observations while I taught children and saw what they liked to read.
Q:	How much of YOU makes it into your characters?
A:	I like to help people and follow “Love thy neighbor as thyself.”
Q:	How do you balance the need to have time to write with the needs of family, society, etc.?
A:	I make time for what I enjoy such as writing this book.
Q:	Have there been any authors in particular, that inspired your writing?
A:	I was inspired by Dr. Seuss and J.K. Rowling.
Q:	Is there a story you want to tell behind or about your work(s)?
A:	In the title of my book I used the name Pepe for my mother as she had so much energy and zest for life.
Q:	What other projects are you currently working on or about to start?
A:	I am writing another book about the Himalayan as she travels the world.
Q:	Could you share some of your marketing strategies?  Which ones are the most effective in your opinion?
A:	I appeal to children of all ages and tell about important lessons in life.
Q:	What would be the top five, (or 3 or 1 or however many) things you would tell aspiring authors?
A:	I would tell aspiring authors to speak from the heart.

About the author  

Angela DeFina was inspired to write this short story by her pet Himalayan cat and her great family. She has two bachelor degrees, one in sociology and one in marketing. It was while she was teaching school that she read many books to children and saw what they liked.
