Fortune Cookie by Josi Kilpack
Sadie Hoffmiller has always liked things to be just so. A place for everything and everything in its place. Order over chaos. And of all things Sadie should be able to control, her own wedding is at the top of the list.
With the big day just three weeks away, Sadie is busily adding the final touches to her wedding plans but the arrival of a mysterious letter from San Francisco changes everything. The only person Sadie knows in San Francisco is her older sister, Wendy, whom she hasn’t seen since their mother’s funeral nearly fifteen years ago.
Sadie has faced off against murderers and criminals in recent years, yet the possibility of reconnecting with her sister is both overwhelming and frightening. Sadie soon discovers, however, that the letter is just the beginning when Wendy’s world turns out to be a place of unanswered questions, twisted truths, and more than one person with a motive for murder.
The more Sadie digs into her sister’s past, the more she places her own future at risk.
Book Readers Review
Fortune
Cookie by Josi Kilpack is yet another success in her Sadie Hollmiller culinary
mystery series, there are ten earlier volumes in the collection. This
story is set in San Francisco where Sadie and her fiance Pete investigates the
suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of Sadie's sister. Wendy is this sister who left home at an
early age.
No one has seen Wendy or heard from since
their mother's funeral fifteen years ago.
She has alienated all who have loved her including her brother, her
sister, and even her own son. Sadie and Pete's wedding is just three weeks away
and their time in San Francisco has evoked emotional for turmoil for them
both. Pete is working through attachment
issues regarding his late wife and Sadie is feeling a loss of control over her
own destiny.
The novel
has many twists and turns that keep you turning the pages and wondering how
much more tragedy Sadie can endure. I found the author's ability to create
mystery and drama skillful and enticing.
Josi Kilpack develops the characters and events in a compelling
manner. You become completely involved in
their lives and emotional turmoil.
Throughout the book, Josi introduces her wonderful food ideas, providing
the recipes at the end of the chapter. Kilpack's
novels a literary delight and a gourmet feast.
I have read one other of the Sadie Hollmiller series 'Baked Alaska' but
the rest are on my list to enjoy. Sadly,
Josi is completing this series with her final book 'Wedding Cake' to be
released this fall. Excellent writing
Josie, I highly recommend 'Fortune Cookie' and the whole series.
