Kindle Giveaway - Stop the Insanity Target 2014

Welcome to my blog David.  Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions about yourself, your book Stop the Insanity Target 2014, and your business.

Q.  Tell us about your latest worktitle, genre, etc. and why you wrote it?
A.  Stop the Insanity Target 2014 is a political manifesto for people fed up with our dysfunctional government in Washington and who want to do something about it. It is intended to offer such people ideas about how we can fix our government and ideas for solving twelve specific problems our country faces. It is also intended as a recruiting tool to get a number of qualified individuals to run for Congress as Independents in 2014. In the last election there were some 20 Independent candidates for the House of Representatives and all lost. I present some ideas on how they can win in 2014.  I wrote this because I feel our country faces a real crisis and risks economic and social collapse in the near future if we don’t do something different.

Q.  What is your writing process like? Do you map the whole thing out or do you just let it unfold?
A.  In this case I first outlined the general approach and logic behind the plan with a list of specific ideas I wanted to discuss. As the book evolved several more ideas were added as I stumbled across new source materiel and additional problems became apparent.

Q.   What kind of research was involved in writing your book?
A.   Although some of the materiel was based on my own extensive experience I did extensive research on most of the topics. The research consisted of Internet searches and reading source documents and also reading several books on relevant subjects. Finally I discussed each of the ideas with a number of knowledgeable people to help refine my own ideas.

Q.   How do you balance the need to have time to write with the needs of family, society, etc.?
A.  Oddly writing this book caused me to interact even more with others on a personal level and also via social network and author websites as I sought added input.  Taking long walks with my dog in the morning gave me a time to think about my ideas so even my dog benefited from this effort.

Q.   Is there a story you want to tell behind or about your work(s)?
A.   I ran for Congress many years ago as a Republican candidate.  I won the Republican primary and faced Congressman Leo Ryan in the general election. I sought support from a number of prominent Republicans but found there was kind of an ‘old boys’ network’ where they would not support a newcomer against a sitting Congressman. Only two Republican Congressmen were willing to openly endorse and support me: Jack Kemp and Ron Paul. This experience taught me to be skeptical of the Republican Party organization. It also taught me that there was a Libertarian wing of the Republican Party with beliefs more consistent with mine.

Q.  What other projects are you currently working on or about to start?
A.  My current work is concerned about politics and problems in the U.S.  However, in my career I have lived in several countries (Korea, England, Poland, Japan, and China) and had business trips to nearly fifty other countries. There are a lot of global problems and my next book with have a worldwide focus. I have an idea for a unique collaborative effort borrowing ideas from my many friends from different countries.

Q.  What would be the top five, (or 3 or 1 or however many) things you would tell aspiring authors?
A.  They should realize before starting that writing a good book is less than ten percent of the effort that will be required to make the book a success. Marketing and selling efforts comprise the rest. Understand this and plan accordingly.

Again, thanks David for taking the time to share your knowledge with us. We appreciate you and your work.

Good luck with your current and future publications.

About the Author:

David Welch's life has been divided between school (studied economics as an undergraduate at Stanford, an MBA in Finance at the University of Chicago, an MS degree in Tax Law at Golden Gate University), Army (two years in Korea during the Vietnam era), politics (ran for Congress and won the Republican primary in California), business (Treasurer of Dowell Schlumberger, Asia Tax Manager for Schlumberger Wireline, CEO of his own educational software company), and teaching (taught English in Poland, taught International Finance at a Chinese University). Recently, David has been assisting his brother in a small Mortgage Modification business. The brothers have helped save the homes of approximately one hundred families facing foreclosure.

Synopsis:

The premise of Stop the Insanity by David Welch puts forth the idea that the government is as insane as the voters who send the same representatives back time and time again. And as long as those voters continue to reelect the same worthless politicians, the insanity in Washington will continue.
There is one other possible explanation: voters lack a reasonable alternative. This suggests the voters are not actually insane, though Washington politics are. Our two political parties are either unable or unwilling to offer reasonable candidates. I suspect—and hope—that is the case.
And from that hope springs this book. I truly believe it is possible to offer the voters an alternative: independent candidates for Congress who will truly act in the best interest of our country and its citizens.

Reader's Comments
“A clearly and cogently argued plea for the world’s largest democracy to start doing what a democracy is supposed to do, govern for and with the people.”

“Every American who is concerned about the dysfunctional mess we call a government should read this book.”

“Your optimism is applaudable, and I wish you luck with your efforts. There definitely is insanity in Washington, and the career politicians need replacing. Your use of plain language and real world examples makes this an easy read, and your chapters are a manageable length.”
