Welcome to my blog Zachary.  Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions about yourself, your book, and freelance writing.

Q. Tell us about your latest worktitle, genre, etc. and why you wrote it?
A. Off Balanced is my teenage memoir exploring how having a mild case of cerebral palsy affected me socially as a teen. My goals with Off Balanced include to empower discouraged teens with disabilities to see their handicaps positively and to encourage able-bodied individuals to think about life from the stand point of someone with a disability.

Q.   Is there a story you want to tell behind or about your work(s)?
A.   There is a lesson I hope people take away from my teenage memoir. That lesson is to embrace your differences as a part of you. If you accept yourself for who you are, life becomes beautiful. (I hope that doesn’t sound too corny.) J

Q.   What draws you to your genre(s)? Why is this type of story compelling to you?
A.  Past experience draws me to disability memoirs. Growing up I viewed my CP negatively so real life stories which can inspire the disability community to see their conditions positively hold a special place in my heart.

Q.  Could you tell us a little more about your handicap and what impact it has, if any, on your life now?
A.  Perhaps the following words from my book could answer this question best.  “I’m lucky. I only have cerebral palsy to a mild degree. My main symptoms include awkward gait, poor balance, tight muscles, and poor vision in my left eye. The poor vision hinders my hand-eye coordination.” The way this impacts me today include small things, like the need for stretching daily to stay loose and needing a railing to go up and down stairs.

Q.  Are you currently living independently or do you require assistance in everyday life matters?
A.  I do not require assistance with everyday life matters. The only thing is I don’t drive because I don’t trust my hand-eye coordination. Therefore transportation is something I have to remain thoughtful about.

Q.  What is your writing process like? Do you map the whole thing out or do you just let it unfold?
A.  Originally I just started writing but 30-some pages in I read what I had back and thought “Wow, this sucks.” Therefore I scraped the written pages and mapped out the entire book.

Q.   What kind of research was involved in writing your book?
A.   I read other memoirs about people with cerebral palsy to get an idea of what I needed to do to make Off Balanced unique and compelling.

Q.   How do you balance the need to have time to write with the needs of family, society, etc.?
A.  I work my writing schedule around other life commitments. Sometimes this means keeping non-traditional hours.

Q.  How supportive are your parents and other family members?
A.  They are more supportive than I could ever ask for. I’m very fortunate.

Q.  How much involvement do you have with other handicapped individuals?
A.  In cyberspace I’ve made a number of connections with individuals with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. Off the web I volunteer on Fridays at an adult activity center for mentally challenged individuals.

Q.  What impact do they have on your life?
A.  The connections I’ve made online help to encourage me. For instance, John W. Quinn a fellow author with CP (Someone Like Me) has been of great support. The volunteer work lets me keep my life in perspective and stay optimistic.

Q.   Have there been any authors in particular, that inspired your writing?
A.  Not really. Creating an opportunity to share my story really is what motivated Off Balanced.

Q.  What other projects are you currently working on or about to start?
A.  I’m currently brainstorming ideas for my next book projects.

Could you share some of your marketing strategies?  Which ones are the most effective in your opinion?
A.  Overall, I’m basically looking for as many opportunities as possible to promote Off Balanced. The most effective way of doing this involves identifying your target audience and focusing on mediums connecting you to these individuals.

Q.  What would be the top five, (or 3 or 1 or however many) things you would tell aspiring authors?
A.  Top Three Things in no particular order:
1. Research the publishing industry and know the different options! I suggest reading Publishing & Marketing Realities for the Emerging Author by Christine Rose.
2. Realize getting published only marks the beginning. Marketing proves equally as tough as getting published.
3. Find a unique angle to make your book compelling and a “must buy.”

Q.  I understand that you are a freelance writer Zachary.  Please could you tell our readers where they may find your work?
A.  I’ve done various work online, on various subjects. Past gigs include writing articles for the disability orientated website Disaboom and ghostwriting blog posts about social media marketing for Hudson Business Solutions. Amongst my current projects include providing fan opinion articles about the Cleveland Indians for Yahoo! Sports and writing content for the California based music website www.ocreloaded.com. Additionally, I have a submission “Turn Your Faults into Assets” published in the book Living in a World of Possibilities.

Q.  What are your goals for the future?
A.  Ah, where to start… Short term goal wise I’m focused on getting Off Balanced out there in paperback form so I can reach the maximum amount of readers as possible. Overall with my writing I aim to provide thought provoking work which can stimulate intelligent conversation, whether such discussion revolves around disability awareness, sports, or another topic.

Again, thanks Zachary for taking the time to share your knowledge with us. We appreciate you and your work.

Good luck with your current and future publications.

Welcome to my blog Gurutej.  Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions about yourself, your business, and book ‘The Moon She Rocks You’.

Q. Tell us about your latest worktitle, genre, etc. and why you wrote it?
A.  The Moon She Rocks YOU. Self help, Women, Relationships, Men understanding women.
To give women and men tips on how to take the drama and trauma out of their lives. Using these 11 moon centers I give tips on food, breathing methods, meditations, love tips, and so much more for how each woman can live in a more balanced state and accept the gifts that each Center offers. I want all women to take advantage of the gifts and not be buried by addictive emotions.
I took the time to write this book and share it with all women out there because you can easily learn about the Moon Centers and unearth the gifts inside each of them. It wasn’t as easy as picking up a book for me. I learned about them at a women’s camp, I don’t remember exactly which one. Yogi Bhajan spoke about the Moon Centers for about half an hour.  We found it interesting at the time, but that was all.
Some ten years later, while sorting out my notes, I found this amazing material again and decided to study it, try it, and share it.  If you are a woman, knowing about The Moon Centers gives you power over your negative emotions.  If you are a man, it gives you the key to understand women of all ages.  You learn to listen to the voice of their emotions.
It gave me the power of choice.  Knowing which Center my energy was in and in which of the three states I was in (positive, neutral, or challenged), saved me form a lot of drama and trauma, as I like to say.  For instance, if your energy is in the clitoris point and it is in a challenged state, it’s not advisable to go on a first date.  Why?  Because this makes you want to be with people you know well, who make you feel comfortable.

Q   What draws you to your genre(s)? Why is this type of story compelling to you?
A. My mission here is to uplift people and give them effective tools to connect to their essential self. Things that will make each person who comes in contact with this work more radiant more of a delightful Hue man being. We are beings of light that is why we are called Human beings. The light of our minds. I want to give techniques to rekindle that light in all.

Q.  What is your writing process like? Do you map the whole thing out or do you just let it unfold?
A.  This had the 11 moon centers and I first did  9 hrs of DVD’s that are much more complete and part of the program available on my site http://gurutej.com/store/11-moon-centers/ this was then transcribed put into a book and edited and rewritten oh about 10 times.

Q.  Gurutej, I understand you have many talents.  Please could you tell our readers a little more about your life and works?
A.  What I want to do here is say go to my web site that will tell you more www.gurutej.com I have had an amazingly interesting life. Any time you have a spiritual teacher your life is bound to be interesting because you have said yes to your soul over all else. Thus I teach from a very deep but humor filled space. Come join me and you will get to see what that means. Sign in on my site and you will get a free e-book and stay connected with my newsletters and events. Come be part of the essence of us.

Q.  Gurutej, when did you realize that you were a spiritual thinker?
A.  Actually I have always known I was spiritual but I remember the day I realized I was a spiritual teacher (though others had been telling me this for a long time). I was speaking with this cute young girl and she asked what I did and I said that I was a yoga teacher. She chirped “Me too.” I knew at that time that we were not speaking of the same thing at all. She was speaking of yoga poses or asanas and I was speaking of a yogic or connected life.

Q. Who or what was the greatest influence in your life?
A. Many both in the body and not. First I hung out with books of saints growing up. Then I did TM, Then Yogi Bhajan was a huge influence, I also studied shamanism and am a student of the Divine Always. The poet Hafiz is a real heart speaks to me now.

Q.  Are there any other members of your family who follow a similar spiritual path as yourself?
 A.  Not at this time but my children both have very deep spiritual practices of their own. They grew up in spiritual communities and have molded their own practices.

Q.   How do you balance the need to have time to write with the needs of family, society, etc.?
A.  Hmmmm. not a problem. I teach and work with what time I have. Stretching time and space.

Q.   Have there been any authors in particular, that inspired your writing?
A.  Inspired me but not my writing style.

Q.  What other projects are you currently working on or about to start?
A.  A book and a program called The 13th Month - Getting 30 extra days each year.  This program and book are geared at two groups. Mothers and people who spend way to much time at their desks or working and want to figure out better ways to live a delicious balanced life having more time to do the things they want. It is a system that works with everything from how you go to sleep and wake up to little things you do all day long to make more effective choices in everything from food to simple exercise you can do right by or at your desk or in the car for Mom’s.

Could you share some of your marketing strategies?  Which ones are the most effective in your opinion?
A.  Steve Harrison’s program called Quantum Leap of author’s great info and support. I have a couple small distribution companies that carry my books. I also worked with Create Space this time for the print book and Book Baby for the Kindle edition.

Q.  What would be the top five, (or 3 or 1 or however many) things you would tell aspiring authors?
    A.  Don’t quit your day job.
B.   Follow your heart and have a great editor who will keep your voice but be more neutral than you about your content.
C.   Pick a great title that works to get people to pick it up or want to know more.
D.   Use online book tours, get on radio shows. It requires work or it will only sit in your basement.

Q.  What is the origin of your name?
A. In Sanskrit it means “the one who lifts you out of darkness into light at the speed of light”. That is what I do this time round. With my presence, I uplift others. Living to my name is the path to my and others liberation.

Q.  Could you explain what the ‘3HO’ is?
A.  Yes healthy, happy, holy
.
Q.  Where did you learn of the “Moon Centers” and the significance for women?
A.  I learned about the Moon Centers from Yogi Bhajan at a women’s camp in the 1970’s. This information is directly related to how the Moon Centers impact areas of a woman’s body – from head to toe. The details about how we can shift how the Moon Centers affect our emotional well-being. Many women experience dramatic fluctuations in their emotional state at various times of the month, this book shows you how to take advantage of the positive times and how to work with and improve the negative times – all without drugs or radical treatments.

 Q. Could you talk about some of the courses you have available and the yoga centers you have created have a course on the moon centers?
A. This is the course on the moon centers that live here and in the hearts and homes of many http://gurutej.com/store/11-moon-centers/
I also have a course called Get Your Essence Back or Get Your Skinny back. Inside every woman - her skinny or juicy self lives. This is the link for that course. http://gurutej.com/store/get-your-skinny-back/
I have a new book that is final edit and there will be a program as well. This is called The 13th month. How you can get 1 extra month a year. This will be out sometime soon.
I also invite you to visit my site – http://www.giurutej.com. I teach in Toronto on a regular basis at Bliss Yoga Studio, I am going to Prague and several other European cities this fall and doing a South American tour in November including a trip to Macha Picchu – you should come with me. All of you should come. I fell in love with this place last year and want to take everyone before they close it. This is a very real thing so come now.

Good luck with your current and future publications.

The Big Bangs Begin Today

Awesome Pyrotechnic Displays
Malta International Fireworks Festival 2012
Time to watch the ‘Big Boys’!  If you have ever visited, going to visit, or are living in Malta, fireworks are a part of life.  If you have not experienced the fireworks, now that is a sin!  The Maltese love their fireworks, particularly the petard bombs during festivals.  You can hear Petards exploding at all hours of the day, evening and sometimes into the night.  The Maltese like to set these ‘bombs’ off in celebration for the feast of the patron saint in each village or town.  Once a year Malta has a spectacular firework show synchronized to music. This is one of the events not to be missed.   The International Fireworks Festival is now in its eleventh year and Malta is celebrating the eighth year of joining the European Union.
The Fireworks displays and International symposium on fireworks start April 21st through May 1st. Firework factories from Canada, the UK, Austria, Croatia, Poland and St Michael's of Lija, Malta will be performing.  Firework displays are to be held in several locations around the island, Floriana, Mdina, Mellieha, St Paul's Bay, Grand Harbour and Gharb, Gozo to name a few.  Also a cruise liner has also been scheduled to stay overnight to allow the passengers to see the grand finale at the Grand Harbour, Valletta.  Some say that a good view point is at Barriera Wharf on the Valletta sea front or from the top of the bastions of the Grand Harbour.  The firework events are free of charge.
Malta has a tradition of fireworks that dates back to the 16th century.  The Knights of Malta would shoot canons and muskets in celebration on special occasions.   According to Wikipedia the Petard bomb dates back to the 16th century and was used to blow up fortifications.  Although in modern day usage the word Petard refers to home-made fireworks in Malta.  This tradition of setting off explosives, or fireworks, as they are called now, continues.  Malta’s fireworks development and the continued use of them, has been influenced by the British and Italians.
Malta is famous for its festivals over a three month period.  Every parish church has a patron saint and holds a feast with processions, bands, and of course fireworks.   According to Professor Alfred Vello there were thirty nine firework factories in Malta in 2011 (Times of Malta November 30th 2011).  After a number of fatal accidents and incidents at some of the factories, the Maltese government has amended the regulations to ensure the safety of all involved.  Those manufacturing and handling fireworks are required to be qualified and licensed (Control of Fireworks and other Explosives (Amendment) Regulations, 2012).
Enjoy the shows!
